Taylor Makes 50 Liberty Tree T5 Guitars

liberty.jpgTaylor Guitars has partnered with platinum-selling artist Jason Mraz for the release the limited-edition (50—one for each state) Liberty Tree T5 Guitar. The roots of the Liberty Tree T5 date back to the Revolutionary War. According to the guitar-maker, patriots chose trees in each of the colonies to hold secret rally meetings to discuss freedom from the rule of England and individual liberty. The last standing “Liberty Tree,” a tulip poplar in Annapolis, Maryland, succumbed to natural forces in 1999. Bob Taylor, owner of Taylor Guitars and long-time American history buff, bought the wood and manufactured 400 Taylor Liberty Tree limited-edition acoustic guitars. The collectors’ items sold out in record time. Taylor couldn’t bring himself to throw away the remaining wood, though. So in 2005, the company introduced the T5, built from the Liberty Tree tulip poplar. Each T5 is identified by the name of a state, with a serial number to designate the order in which the state entered the Union. Each features a hand-inlaid Revolutionary-period battle banner, mother-of-pearl star inlays, and other details. Suggested list price is $10,000. For more, go to www.taylorguitars.com.
