Songs For Tibet

Latest Pro–Dalai Lama Comp Hits The Shelves
enlightenment.jpgLast week we told you about the recently released World Artists For Tibet CD compilation. This week another, likeminded release comes to our attention, Songs For Tibet. Political commentators have for quite some time suggested that the upcoming Beijing Olympics would result in good and bad publicity for the nation, which is not known for having a progressive stance on human rights issues. This release is another attempt to capitalize on the current focus on the nation and draw attention to the exiled political and religeous leader of Tibet, a country that was successfully invaded by China in 1949.

Songs For Tibet, which features music from Sting, Alanis Morissette, Moby, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Imogen Heap, and others, will reportedly be played during hundreds of Candle For Tibet (CFT) vigils worldwide. The album contains a number of original recordings as well as acoustic versions of previously released songs. Sales of Songs For Tibet will go to support Tibetan cultural preservation projects and peace initiatives. The album is available for purchase worldwide, including at artofpeacefoundation.org, iTunes, and Amazon.com. It will be also be available at both CFT Web sites, candle4tibet.org and its social network candle4tibet.ning.com.
The CFT action will start on Thursday, August 7 at 9:00 p.m. local time, when at least 100 million people from over 150 countries are expected to light a candle in public, with friends or at their homes. People can join the action at candle4tibet.org.
